'Tis the Season

On Thursday, our students participated in a Service Learning Project with the help of both classroom teachers as well as Mr. and Mrs. Sasser. Students learned the importance of giving in the midst of this holiday season. We created Christmas tree pinecone centerpieces to decorate the tables of the Good Shepard's Christmas dinner. We hope the students enjoyed this activity and know that this time of year isn't always about giving, it's also about getting. Here are three of our students showing off the beautiful centerpieces we created.

Holidays Around the World

This past week we began a Social Studies unit study about holidays that are celebrated around the world.  Tuesday and Wednesday, our students learned about Sweden and one of their special holidays, St. Lucia's Day, which is celebrated on December 13th. We ate a cinnamon twist with raisins and icing and made St. Lucia's crowns. If your child liked these, you can buy cinnamon rolls, braid them and bake them according to directions.

On Thursday and Friday we learned about Israel and how they celebrate Hanukkah. We made dreidels and even sang about them at our Christmas Performance for the Book Fair on Thursday night. On Friday afternoon, we filled out our passports and tried latkes. If your child liked them, you can purchase 8 of them for $2.99 at Trader Joe's.

Welcome to our Blog!

(to the tune of Welcome to Our School)
Welcome to our blog, to our blog, to our blog!
Welcome to our blog, we hope you like it here!

Welcome to our classroom blog! We are excited to share what students have been learning about in the classroom. At least once a week, there will be a new post for you and your child to comment on and share your own ideas. We look forward to learning more about your family and hope you'll grow with us!
